The Activities year wise covering a life span of 25 years (1976-2001)
1976
Established the Society of Physically handicapped in Ahmedabad in 1976 with a view of creating public awareness and providing encouragement and giving them necessary help. Today this is one of the biggest Institutions in Gujarat.
1977
1. Arranged a state level seminar on "how to give self employment to the handicapped" in mount Abu in 1977.
2. Managed to start games for handicapped in Gujarat University in 1977.
1978
In 1978 all types of service were rendered to the handicapped in Ahmedabad. The needy were distributed and given scholarships. With a view to removing inferiority complex, a cycle was organized, different cultural programmers were also organized, other social activities were also performed.
1979
1. Got an opportunity to remain present as an Indian delegate in the Sixth Mobility International World Conference in Geneva, Switzerland in 1979.
2. He also visited UK, France, Ireland, Kuwait, South Africa, and Kenya along with the Mobility International Delegates, to study the problems of the handicapped.
1980
In 1980, I was presented 15 Wheelchairs from the Gujarati Samaj, UK. These wheelchairs were brought to Ahmedabad and distributed to the handicapped free of charge by the worthy hands of the Governor of Gujarat. Each wheelchair was worth Rs. 4,000/-.
1981
In the year 1981, organized different seminars in the International Handicapped Year. Throughout the year worked in Associations with the District Collector of Khed District Shri Mankad Saheb and managed to get jobs to the handicapped. Also managed to get bank loans to them and tried to rehabilitated in the handicapped.
1982
1. Remained present as the Chief Guest in America in national Seminar of the Physically Handicapped of USA in 1982.
2. In 1982, tried to get information regarding the organizations for Handicapped and the activities from Belgium, Dubai and UK.
1983
In 1983, went on fast of 11 days for getting relief for the handicapped and reservations of the seat in S.T. Bus. Also formed a committee for this. 3.50 Laks Handicapped were benefited by this.
1984
In 1984, established the South Gujarat handicapped Association as activities for the handicapped from Surat to Vadodara where very dim and they were unaware of the Government benefits. At present I am the President of this Association and discharging my duties towards them.
1985
Starting Viklang Bandhu printing press in 1985 with an intention to give employment to the handicapped and also to train them. Every year 10 compositors, printers, book binders, and proof readers are trained and they are absorbed at different places. All out efforts are being made to give training to the maximum numbers of handicapped.
1986
Joined the Lions club of Surat Midwest in 1986. Last year I was the Chairman of the Handicapped-blind Dumb in the textile mill and the diamond Industries. 10 handicapped were given cabins to sell cold drinks to sell in association with the Surat Beverages Pvt. Ltd. And Surat Municipal Corporation. Managed to get telephone booths to 5 handicapped with the help of Surat Telephone Company.
1987
With the help of Manglam Lucknow distributed tricycles, hearing aids, clippers to 120 handicapped-deaf and dumbs. 14 handicapped were treated through surgical camps, the expenditure of which was met by some mill owners. Received the award for the best work done for the handicapped in district 323-F this year, 1987.
1988
On the invitation of World Handicapped Organization, America I visited 12 states of America for collecting information relating to the handicapped and attended a 3 months duration training programmed in America for conducting good guidelines for the handicapped persons in India.
1989
For the welfare of the handicapped persons I am selected as the President of the Organization in the World Handicapped Day. In my control we organized seminars, games, recruitment functions self employment camps in which 400 handicapped, blind, and deaf persons to part and got benefits.
1990
Shri Manubhai Pithawadiwala's, MLA fund of Rs.5,00,000/- (Rs. Five Lakhs Only) was utilized for the benefit of weaker sections of the society by Lion Kanubhai Tailor on behalf of MLA Shri Manubhai Pithawadiwala. 16,000 people eyes were examined and 14,000 spectacles were distributed in 14 free eye camps which were conducted every Sunday continuously for six months during 1990.
1991
Programmed for free checkup of eye and providing specks/lenses to the poor people was arranged in Surat city, about 14,000 deserving persons have taken benefits of the same. The programme was sponsored by the Ex-MLA Shri Manubhai Pithawadiwala of Surat. The expenditure made about Rs. 5,00,000/- under my conveneership. The programme was conducted by me for one year with the good faith and responsibility.
1992
Activities made under the president ship of Lions Club of Surat Midwest during the period 1992-93
1. Rs. 5000/- was donated by our club for permanent project for handicapped student in Akhanand Arts and Commerce College, Ved Road, Surat.
2. Rs. 4000/8- was arranged for handicapped persons for self employment from small scale industries, Govt. of Gujarat.
3. Under my representation Surat Municipal Corporation has sanctioned the following donation vide General Board meeting held on 1.7.1992. (a) Rs. 1,00,000/- to Blind School, Ghod Dod Road, Surat for building construction work. (b) Rs. 32,000/-for deaf and dumb Athwalines Surat for buying required instruments. (c) Rs. 17,000/- to mentally retarded school Surat. (d) Rs. 7,000/- to mentally retarded children school "Mamta", Ghod Dod Road, Surat for their medicine. (e) Rs. 2,000/- to mentally retarded school Singapuri wadi, Surat for buying instruments.
4. Rs. 5000/- was donated to Akhand Anand College, Surat for permanent project for handicapped students, Shri Popatlal Vyas, ex. Home Minister, govt. Of Gujarat was the chief guest at the opening ceremony held on 1.7.92 and I was the guest of honour in the function.
5. 150 notebooks of 200 hundred pages were distributed to Surat Nagar Prathmic school no. 87 to 25 handicapped children on 1.7.92.
6. Rs 21,250/- were arranged for 25 handicapped children of the above mentioned school at the rate of Rs. 850/- per student. Shri Chaubal Saheb of social welfare dept., Surat was kind enough to grant his favor.
7. 36 notebooks of 200 pages were distributed to 36 mentally retarded children of Mamta School, G.D. Road, Surat.
8. 100 books of 200 hundred pages were distributed to 25 handicaps children of Vishram Nagar Primary School of Surat. Myself and other Lion graced the occasion.
9. Rs. 10,000/- help was arranged for 25 handicapped students of the above school by Social Welfare Dept., Govt. of Gujarat on 4.7.92.
10. Rs. 4000/- was arranged for 4 handicap persons for self employment for small scale industries, Govt. of Gujarat 8.7.92.
11. 360 notebooks of 200 pages were distributed to 90 children of deaf and dumb school of Surat. Myself and other Lions attended the meeting, fruits were distributed to the children.
1993
1.10 Diamond manufacturer were inspired to employ handicapped persons. Meeting was arranged under the president ship, the diamond manufacturer promised for providing jobs to 100 physically handicapped persons.
2. Mangalam handicapped camp was arranged in which the cub spent Rs. 2,00,000 /- and 250 deserving people took advantage of a unique camp.
3. Mangalam Lucknow Handicapped Camp inauguration: District Governor Lion Vinodbhai Shah inaugurated the camp at Surat. The Collector, Surat/MLA of Surat and Vice-Chancellor of SGU of Surat graced the occasion
4. Managalam Lucknow Handicapped Camp closing ceremony: Police Commissioner, H'ble Shri Sibbal Saheb was a chief guest, H'ble Dr. Kanubhai Mawani, MLA, Smt. Gitaben Desai, Chairman of SMC, H'ble Advocate Shri Vasudev Goplani, our zone chairman and other Lions were presented as the Guest of Honour. Provide the following to the handicapped persons: (a) 14 handicapped persons were provided tricycles (b) 8 handicapped persons were provided wheelchairs. (c) 60 handicapped persons were provided hearings aides. (d) 10 handicapped persons were provided calipers (e) 110 handicapped persons were provided crutches. (f) 50 handicapped persons were provided medical and moral support and also they were examined by the experts. Handicapped articles worth of Rs. 1,75,00 were distributed in the camp, total cost of the camp was Rs. 2,00,00 /- and about 250 people were benefited from the camp worth Rs. 150 each. Myself and my fellow Lions were present in the ceremony.
5. I being the President , received the best employer award for the year 1990-91. Hon'ble Governor Shri Swaroopsingh, gave the award. The award was awarded by the Labor and Employment Dept. Govt. of Gujarat. It is heartening to note that the only 2 persons recieved the prestigious award and I am one of them. Labor Minister Shri Madhubhua also graced the occasion personally.
6. Arranged for employment for 2 blind persons in Surat Beverage Company, Shri Ramjibhai Paramar, aged 28 years and Manibhai Solanki, aged 32 years.
7. Ln. Jagdish Chugh donated Rs. 65,000 to kidney patient to Shri Nanubhai Vallabhbhai Patel in Nadlad Kidney Hospital, in the presence of Administrative Manager, Dr. Bhaskaran, Ln. R.K. Tyagi accompanied Ln. Jagdish Chud to Nadiad to meet the arrangement for the operation of the patient.
8. Closing ceremony of pre-employment training of handicapped persons: The above function held at Priya Hotel, Surat was attended and accompanied by Smt. Gitaben Desai, Chairman, Cultural Programme committee of SMC Surat, Ln. Babubhai Godhani, Handicapped Committee Chairman.
9. Loan for self employment arranged for Rs. 10,000/- from Dena Bank, Rampura, Surat to Shri. Mohammed Mansuri, handicapped in both legs aged about 35 Yrs. at 50% subsidy benefit.
10. Shri Anil J. Limbachiya, Handicapped at right leg has opened the laminating shop for self-employment. He has been encouraged by me and my colleagues.
1994
1. Meeting was held with the collector of Surat, in the presence of employment officer for the employment of handicap Shri. Thakurbhai Patel.
2. I have arranged scholarship of Rs. 12,000/- for 24 handicapped students studying in Std. I - VII of municipal school of Pandesara, Surat.
3. I have encouraged and inaugurated the food stall of Shri. Kanubhai Patel, handicap person at Kutchi - Parle Point, Surat.
4. 85 tricycles were distributed to handicapped persons by Shri Pudlik Patil and a club worth Rs. 1,53,00/- . Shri Jagdish Tekravala donated Rs. 20,000/- for this worthy cause.
5. Shri. Mahendrabhai Hathiwala, was provided cold-drinks booth for self - employment by Rajiv Modi. I have persuaded the same to Shri. Rajiv Bhai to do the needful.
6. World Disable Day was celebrated at Rang Upvan. Collector Shri. T.V. Trivedi , Ln. Dr. Harikrishna Joshi were present with me. Fruits worth Rs. 4,000/- were distributed in different associations. Ln. Raghunathram Jhamb, Ashok Kanungo, Kanwal Arora, Madangopal Narang, Ramesh Chugh and Amarnath Dora were present.
7. I have visited Indian Parliament House along with Shri. Kashiram Rana, M.P. to highlight the difficulties of handicapped persons, matter discussed with Shri. Satish Sharma. Minister Petroleum,Govt. of India to get 2% grant of gas agencies to handicapped persons.
8. I had a meeting with President of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Smt. Sonia Gandhi at her residence. Discussed to avail donations from Rajiv Gandhi Foundation for handicapped persons.
9. Dr. Ln. Tulsian gave polio drops to 100 children during the year 1994.
10. Shri Ram Cold Drinks stores, belonging to Shri. Mahendra bhai Hathiwala who is handicap in both legs. Opening ceremony presided over by the mayor of Surat, and I was the guest of honour in the ceremony.
11. I have inaugurated Shop. No. 260, Ambica Nagar,Katargam, Surat, owned by Shri. Manishbhai M. Thakkar , who is a handicapped person.
12. Chairman of Education Committee of SMC has entrusted the survey of handicapped students. Accordingly the survey was made in 204 primary schools, for Std. IV- VII. The same was completed and tricycles were provided to 140 students of primary section, they were brought from Indore. The programme was conducted by me and completed very nicely. 13. Programme of reemployment to the handicapped persons was arranged in the Pandesara Industrial Estate, Surat and employment provided to 70 handicapped persons.
14. Training an employment for the Printing Press has been given since 1985 to the following persons, (1) Shri Prajesh Choksi, Surat. (2) Shri Bhupatbhai Patel, Surat. (3) Shri Mukesh Patel, Surat. (4) Shri Rajubhai Shah (handicapped, dumb), Navsari. (5) Shri Dayabhai Ahir (handicapped, dumb), Surat. (6) Smt. Manishaben G., Surat. Training to all the above persons were given in my Viklang Banbhu Printing Press, Surat. Loan for the Printing Press has been arranged through Dist. Industrial Dept. they got the self-employment, co-operation and guidance.
1995
1. There were no provision for the employment to the handicapped person in the major industrial sector of Hazira, Surat, the case was taken up with Shri V.P. Trivedi, collector of Surat, matter was taken to the dist. Employment Co-ordination. Collector, Surat, Chairman of the said C-ordination committee has taken up the same case with the concerned authority and employment to 15 handicapped person provided.
2. Arrangement made for retail sale of cold drinks for which association is formed, the e matter was taken up with the Surat Beverage Company Pvt. Ltd. And who had provided trolley to 32 handicapped persons. They are getting margin of Rs. 2/- per bottle for which permanent arrangement is made.
3. In capacity of Director of the Prime co-operative Bank, Surat, loan of Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 60,000 released to 15 handicapped persons for which the loan application recommended by the Dist. Industries Center, Surat. At present they are running their own business.
1996
1. Programme for self employment to the handicapped persons was organized by the Chamber of Commerce, Surat. Loans to the 70 handicapped persons were given by the Bank of Baroda, Dena Bank, Canara Bank, Bank of India, the proposal were recommended by the Social Welfare Dept. and Dist. Industry Center of Surat.
2. I have arranged for the big donation of Rs. 1,65,000 to the Disable Welfare Trust, same will be utilized in the welfare activities of handicaps.
3. During this year I was nominated Chairman of Dist. Handicapped Committee organized by Lions Club - D -323-F. in capacity of said Chairman following activities were made for the handicapped persons.
1997
1. Visited South Africa in January, 1997 at the invitation of Hon'ble President Mr. Nelson Mandella and visited various organization working for the handicapped and discuss the length of feasibility of handicapped person exchange programme. Met high commissioner of India Mr. Gopal Krishna Gandhi.
2. Visited Kenya in January, 1997 and established Kenya-India Handicapped Society. Indian embassy has arranged for the same. Met the high commissioner of India, Nairobi, Mr. D.B. Srinivasan.
3. From Baroda to Mumbai there was no school for handicapped children. It was my dream to establish such school in South Gujarat region. I could convince the local and state authorities and started the school for the handicapped children from 1st July 1997 in Surat. The school is unique in itself. This school has been recognized by Social Welfare Dept. of Govt. of Gujarat. This has the accommodation of 210 children from Std. I to VII. This school provides totally free education, transportation, medical check up etc. in near future the school is giving to have hostel facilities.
4. Disable Welfare Trust of India, Surat city, survey slum area in which 1280 children were found handicapped and living below poverty line and are illiterate. We took responsibility to provide them education.
5. We also participated polio drop camp organized by govt. of India in co-ordination with dist. Collector office, Surat municipal corp. by which 20,000 children were benefited.
6. Handicapped school (primary-section) standard I to VIIth with 120 children was established in a ten-room building allotted by Surat Municipal Corp. which opening ceremony was held in present of Guj. State education Minister ( Tech. Dept.) Shri Bhagubhai Vimal, Shri Kashiram Rana (MP), Shri Narottambhai Patel (MLA) and Surat city Mayor Mrs. Geetaben Desai and other prestigious Persons .
7. 120 Handicapped children are provided note books, pens, pencils, school uniforms, lunch boxes, water bags, school bags, protein nasta, computer training, physiotherapy treatment,small scale industry training, transportation services, also calipers, Tricycles and wheel chairs provided to needful children free of cost. Each student is given 500/- fix deposit scheme by the trust. Institition is not taking any fees neither getting any grant.
1998
1. High school section for handicapped children opening ceremony was done in presence of edu. Minister, Smt. Anandiben Patel, social-welfare Minister Shri faquirbhai Vaghela, water supply minister shri Narottambhai Patel by which 183 children were benefited.
2. 183 children were allotted tricycles, scratches, calipers, wheelchair and operated free of cost.
3. Kite flying competition was organised in which more then 1500 handicapped of Gujarat state participated. Opening ceremony was held in presence of hon. Minister of law-justices Shri. Hemantbhai Chapatwala, MLA and Ex. Social welfare Minister Shri. Atmaran Parmar.
4. To Encourage and develop confidence, we arranged a tracking tour at Dist. Dang to Ajmalgrah at 8 K.M - 2500 feet height in which more then 250 handicapped children participated from Gujarat State. This program was arranged in presence of Guj. State Tribal Minister Shri. Mangubhai Patel.
5. More then 100 handicapped children participated in national sports at Delhi and won seven gold medal and were Hon. By Gujarat Sports Minister Shri. Mahendra Trivedi with 1800/- yearly scholarship and Blazer.
6. A week programme for tree plantation was held in associate with Surat Municipal Corp. and forest Dept. school compound, Public school, Road side, shamsan ghar. During this period more then 10,000 trees were planted, which opening was held by Lions international multiple chirman Shri. Ashok Kanungo.
7. Ahmedabad (Gandhi Ashram) Sabarmati to Delhi Rajghat - 1400 K.M "peace and prosperous cycleyatra was held by handicapped on behalf of 50Th anniversary jubilee of our country. This opening ceremony was held by Guj. Water Supply Minister Shri. Narottambhai Patel. This 20 days successful peace-yatra was warm - welcome at Delhi in presence of hon. Tex. Minister Shri. Kashiram Rana, C.M Shri. Shibsingh Varma, Guj.M.Ps and Rajiv Gandhi Foundation's chair man Smt. Sonia Gandhi.
1999
1. Our India handicapped are never behind at international level also. This reality came when our institution President and handicapped children participated in an "Adventurous Cycle Yatra" in presence of thousands of Indians at Swami Narayan Temple, London. The yatra started 13th May, 1999 and was successfully completed on 15th June 1999.
2. London, Lewton, Lester,Barminghon , Manchester,Bolton, Scotland and all the Indians in these big cities honoured and greeted them for their success.
3. B.B.C. of U.K., Radio, T.V. and News Paper also greeted and congratulated & noted down their Adventure activity.
4. All requesting Municipal Corp. they allotted us a separate school building at an estimated cost of 60 Lacs for the handicapped children education in which 240 children of Std. I to IX are taking education free of cost.
5. On a request to get an I.T.I recognition for the handicapped students the concerned Minister Shri Ashok Bhatt and Commissioner of Training & Employment Shri Jagdishan (L.A.S) principally agreed to give the recognition.
6. The Trust arranged Handicapped Intercaste Marriage of Kum. Nandaben Kawaswala of Ahmedabad with Shri Yogeshbhai Raval handicapped blessing of the couple was given by Guj. State Law Minister Shri Hemantbhai Chapatwala, Surat city Mayor Shri Navneetbhai Jariwala ^ Social Welfare Officers. Government arranged Rs. 10,000/- help & Rs. 5,000/- saving certificate which was handed by Shri Hemantbhai Chapatwala.
7. An Handicapped get-together was arranged by the Trus in which Kum, Bhanuben Devani (D.A.A) Marriage was arranged with Dr.Dipakkumar Deor (D.H.M.S.) in handicapped school at Surat.In which eminent dignitaries of Surat city gave attendance.
2000
1. Inaugurated Std. 10 in the Secondary School for the handicapped children the worthy hands of Shree Mahendra Trivedi, Hon. Minister of Youth, Services Cultural Activities, Govt. of Gujarat.
2. Inaugurated ITI centre for the handicapped at the worthy hands of Shree Bhupendra Lakhawala, Hon. Minister, Labour and Employment, Govt. of Gujarat, Gandhinagar. The handicapped students who have passed 12th Std. Are taking advantage of the centre by learning various courses.
3. 600 pairs of uniform were distributed to 300 handicapped children at the worthy hands of Shree Kanjibhai Patel, Hon. Minister, Forest and Environment, Govt. of Gujarat, Gandhinagar. On the secondary 50 tricycles were also distributed to the needy students, Tree plantation was also done in the school compound.
4. 26th Annual Conference of the Voluntary Organizations working for the handicapped was held in which as many as 130 voluntary organizations had participated. Shree Fakirbhai Vaghela, Hon. Minister, Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of Gujarat, Shreee Hemantbhai Chapatwala, Hon. Minister, Law, Govt. of Gujarat,Shree Karsanbhai Patel, Hon. Deputy Minister , Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of Gujarat, discussed the problems of the handicapped with the office bearers.
5. 3rd National Assembly for the handicapped people was held on 2nd Oct. 2000 at New Delhi. I effectively represented the problems to the handicapped so as to get them maximum facilities.
6. The school has set up a latest computer centre to train the handicapped children in Information Technology, Shree Kashiram Rana, Hon. Minister Textive, Govt. of Gujarat,was kind enough to spare Rs. 3 laks for this centre from his grant. This centre was inaugurated by this good |
